Zagreb 2014 World Field Championships: 10 archers to watch

Zagreb (CRO) - Thursday, August 14, 2014
Zagreb 2014 World Field Championships: 10 archers to watch Next Tuesday, more than 250 of world’s best field archers will be shooting at Zagreb 2014. Here are some of the favourites to keep an eye on…

1) Jake KAMINSKI (USA) – recurve men: Consistently a top 10 finisher at World Cup stages in 2014, and silver medallist at the last field worlds in Val d’Isere, KAMINSKI’s looking for his first individual world title.

2) Ivana BUDEN (CRO) – compound women: The Croatian is reigning world champ and she’s aiming to defend her crown at home.

3) Jean-Charles VALLADONT (FRA) – recurve men: Val d’Isere biggest surprise VALLADONT beat KAMINKSI to gold in Val d’Isere, 58-56. Will it be a world double in a row?

4) Naomi FOLKARD (GBR) – recurve women: At Val d’Isere, FOLKARD won team gold and a bronze medal in the individual competition – then she won the 2013 World Games. Two good reasons to keep her on the radar!

5) Elena RITCHER (GER) – recurve women: Reigning world champ. World ranked number six. World Cup ranked number three. Qualified for Lausanne final World Cup. The one to beat!

6) Jesse BROADWATER (USA) – compound men: Reigning world champ BROADWATER will be looking to maintain his dominance of the compound men’s competition. He’s won a team gold medal at Nimes 2014.

7) Irene FRANCHINI (ITA) – recurve women: Riom 1999 world champion has returned to the field archery stage after years of absence. If she’s in good form remains to be seen.

8) Dejan SITAR (SLO) – compound men: Beijing 2001 world champion SITAR made the top 16 two years ago in Val d’Isere, is a previous medallist and is one of the more experienced field archers shooting internationally.

9) and 10) Erik JONSON and Martin OTOSSON (SWE) – barebow men: OTOSSON won at Canberra 2002, and JONSON at Plitvice 2004 – and, according to Twitter, they’ve both been recording some ridiculous qualification scores in the past month.
