Secretary General re-elected to World Games executive committee
Belek/Antalya (TUR) - Monday, April 07, 2014
World Archery Secretary General Mr Tom DIELEN will continue his work with the International World Games Association for another term.
During the federation’s Annual General Meeting at SportAccord – which runs for the rest of the week in Belek, Turkey – Mr Tom DIELEN was one of the three candidates elected as members of the International World Games Association’s Executive Committee.
It is Mr DIELEN’s third term on the committee, having served the last four years as vice president and four years prior to that as a member.
The World Games have been held every four years since 1981 as a multisport event for sports and disciplines not yet included in the Olympics. Boasting an atmosphere widely proclaimed by athletes as one of the best in sport, the event included over 100 nations and 3,500 competitors at Cali 2013.
“Archery is an important part of the World Games movement,” said Mr DIELEN. “The sport has been on the programme since 1985, and it offers our non-Olympic disciplines the elite Games that they deserve.”
“The introduction of compound as a separate event at Cali 2013 was highly successful. Knowing how well the organisation of our World Cup stage in Wroclaw is going, now in its second year, I am wholly confident in the success of archery at Wroclaw 2017 – the next World Games.”
President of the International World Games Association Mr Ron FROEHLICH chaired the elections – for what will be the last time. He stepped down from the presidency after 25 years in the position and was made Honorary President.
Mr Jose PERURENA (ESP), International Olympic Committee member and President of the International Canoe Federation, was elected to succeed Mr FROEHLICH as President.
