Support of World Plan in focus for para archery activities

Support of World Plan in focus for para archery activities

Lausanne (SUI) - Wednesday, April 30, 2014

Learn what World Archery’s para committee discussed at its latest meeting – and which members have been assigned development responsibilities.

World Archery’s committees gathered at the organisation’s headquarters in March for their annual meetings. The para archery committee assessed its current and future projects – and how they contribute to the World Archery Plan.

Here’s a short summary of what was discussed:

  • Classification committee member Clare DOYLE will undertake a research project on balance testing when shooting in the near future. Assessing the test methods will require cooperation from para athletes and coaches.
  • World Archery Europe’s para archery survey will continue – and the programme may soon be adapted for other continental associations.
  • There is scope to develop para archery in Africa and this will be explored by committee members Helen GEORGE and Dominique OHLMANN. Dominique is also technical delegate for the European Para Archery Championships in Switzerland this summer.
  • Sheri RHODES will focus on para archery activities in the Americas, as well as archery for the visually impaired. With the approval of new visually impaired archery rules, every international para archery tournament will include a visually impaired division if sufficient numbers of athletes enter.
  • The Asian Para Games are progressing well – with NPCs submitting final entry numbers over the coming months. Para committee chairman Carole HICKS is technical delegate and will be working with World Archery Asia to support the local organising committee before and throughout the event in October 2014.
  • All committee members will continue working with continental and national associations to encourage the integration of para archery and able-bodied federations – or at least ensure an effective working relationship between the organisations.
